Tough Race at Porsche Supercup in England

08-07-2007

It was a tough weekend for the Schnabl Engineering - LKM - Team Jebsen on the english track of Silverstone. In the framework of the Formula One the Porsche Supercup held its 6th round of the season.
"We knew before, that it would not be easy for us in England", said teamchef Sven Schnabl after the race weekend, altough he could be content with the performance of drivers and cars. "Only results were not good enough."
In free practice one was still in search of the right setup on the track of a former Royal Air Force base. Since one did not have any tests in the forefront of the event Jiri Janak and Darryl O'Young only reached ranks 16 and 25.
No big change in qualifying too, altough one did several modifications on the cars. Janak drove on rank 18, while O'Young had to pay the price of the rookie: Lacking experience threw him back on place 26.
"Especially in Silverstone experience is very important", knows Sven Schnabl. "The course is quick and demands high trust in the car. If you do not find the right setup, it becomes difficult in the race."
On sunday morning race started and weather was brilliant. Both drivers could keep the pace of the grid and aimed forward. But as so often most accidents happen in midfield - this time too: Janak just wanted to pass Richard Williams, when he suddenly got a bump. His car got damaged badly and so he had to end his race in lap nine. "A typical race accident that can happen to all of us", stated Janak afterwards.
Darryl O'Young was quick on track too. He had a worth-seeing fight with dutchman Sebastiaan Bleekemolen and finally ended the race on position 21.
In two weeks Schnabl Engineering - LKM - Team Jebsen will have its homerace. From 20th to 22nd July 2007 the 7th round of the Porsche Supercup will be held at Nürburgring.
