Schnabl Engineering finished fifth at the first race of the Porsche Carrera Cup German

The season opening has been successful for Schnabl Engineering in front of 91.000 spectators at the Hockenheimring from May 15th - May 147th . Two of the three entered cars finished in top 10 of the worlds fastest one make championship.

"We can be glad of the result we achieved", stated team owner Sven Schnabl who entered three Porsche Carrera Cup cars in the 20th year of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.

Next to Hannes Plesse (Braunschweig), who already started fort he team last season, are the Poland Robert Lukas an the Ammerbuch based Sebastian Asch are new in the team.

After doing last set up changes at the Porsche's at the free practice, the team started optimistic into qualifying at the 4,574km long Formula 1 circuit at Hockenheim. The optimism should be all right, Hannes Plesse could place himself with his best qualifying result so far in the second row on the grid. His lap time has been OK for P4 while Robert Lukas qualified 13th and Sebastian Asch 15th.

On Sunday morning it should even be better. In front of full grandstands the Porsche Carrera Cup started just before DTM. The 25year old Plesse had big fights at the start and has been lucky not to damage his car. During the race he had the right tactic and a good set up in his 420hp Porsche GT3. Plesse even could attack at the end of the race with good Michelin tyres and finished fifth, his best Carrera Cup Germany result so far. Robert Lukas made his team boss smile, he finished ninth, so the team place two car in top 10. "If Carl-Olov Carlsson would not loose oil in front of me, which sprayed onto my windscreen so I could not see anything any more, I could even do better."

A great race for the 22year old Sebastian Asch, too. He lost a couple of places because somebody over braked and crashed into him and made him, spun. "I saw the car on my left side coming through, I thought it will be tight and suddenly he banged into me - so I spun!" At the end he finished 14th, a position in top 10 could have been possible. His lap time of 1:44.946 Minutes, which is the second fastest of the race shows what would have been possible.

At the end team owner Sven Schnabl has been satisfied: „Hannes Plesse did not do a single mistake and has with position five a really good result at the first race. Robert Lukas has been very fast and Sebastian Asch will have some good finishes in the near future. Without the bad luck he had today he could have finished 8th today."

Until the next race there is a two week brake, the race will be held a Lausitzring from May, 29th - May 31st 2009.
