Schnabl Engineering -LKM- Team Jebsen quick at homerace
23-07-2007
Good race, quick times but unfortunately the performance of Schnabl Engineering -LKM-Team Jebsen did not reflect in the results. Jiri Janak was in good shape and reached rank 14. Darryl O'Young was involved in a collision but still was classified 26th.
Teamchef Sven Schnabl was content with his pilots' performance: "We are missing race luck at the moment, but both cars saw chequered flag and there will come a time when fortune will be on our side."
The team can be optimistic for good reasons: driver performances become better and better and this normally is going to be rewarded sooner or later.
During the homerace of the Porsche Supercup at Nürburgring in the framework of the F1 GP of Europe one was able to drive good times in free practice. Janak reached rank 15 and O'Young came on position 17.
In qualifying positive tendency went on with ranks 14 (Janak) and 19 (O'Young). So the team was optimistic for the race on sunday morning.
For the race 30 pilots were ready to go and just after the start Darryl O'Young took center stage. With a broken tyre valve he had to come to pits. "During a duell with Phil Quaife he damaged the valve. Just a quarter turn more and nothing would have happened", teamchef Schnabl said. "The car is not damaged in any way!" Unfortunately O'Young had to drive more than a half lap until he reached pitlane and therfore lost about one lap. With a good performance he rejoined the race, but was not able to do decisive action again. His seventh best lap time shows that his speed is quick enough. "I did no want to do any risky actions and tried my best not to hinder the other drivers."
Jiri Janak had plenty of fights in the beginning. He was involved in a few harder incidents but was able to get out of it soon. "He was always there where action took place", Schnabl stated, "and he did a great race. Unfortunately his 14th rank does not reflect his performance. A better result was possible, but we are happy, that he saw finish line after we had bad luck in the last races."
There is no time for a break now. After the Supercup race at Nürburgring the team travels to Zandvoort (NL). Here Jiri Janak and Pierre Kaffer will start in the Porsche Carrera Cup in the framework of the DTM on 29th July. Only one week later the Supercup guests at Budepest.
