Schnabl Engineering -LKM- Team Jebsen and Darryl O'Young rea
08-10-2007
Returning to the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Darryl O'Young managed to continue his great performance of 2006 at once. Technically supported by Sven Schnabl and the car of Schnabl Engineering, which he steers in the Porsche Carrera Cup too, O'Young was in best shape. After winning the title in 2006 the pilot from Hong Kong drove again a race in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. Already in qualifying of the 9th and 10th round of the championship in the framework of the chinese F1 GP in Shanghai, O'Young showed his goord performance. With a time of 2:10.511 minutes he was a half second faster than Tim Sudgen. The 41 years old Briton, who actually takes part in the ALMS and FIA GT, was his hardest opponent this weekend.
First race was really thrilling! After a good start Darryl O'Young came back second from the first lap. The following eight laps both showed a worth seeing fight on the 5,451 Kilometres long circuit and none of them made any mistake. But then O'Young was able to overtake the Briton, until the latter managed a counter attack in the last but one lap. Again O'Young took his chance to take rank one but in the very end Sudgen was slightly quicker and decided the race in his favour. Afterwards Sven Schnabl was exalted: "This was a great race and absolutely fair. Four times lead changed among the two drivers. Sudgen is not easy to be beaten, he has a lot of experience and is leading the championship. So O'Youngs performance has to be rewarded even higher."
In the second race O'Young repeated his skills. Unfortunately he started second, being placed on the right wet side, whereas the left side was dry. So he dropped back to rank five up to the first corner. But he recovered and caught up again. Classified third he had a spin due to the difficult weather conditions and dropped back to five once more. he was lacking about five seconds to the front men but did not retire at all. In the end he managed to take rank three and the podium again and even managed a gap of about five seconds to the fourth placed driver. Gap to place two was only 1.5 seconds finally, but could not be reduced since rain set in.
After this success Sven Schnabl and Darryl O'Young will take part in the last two racing weekends in Zhuhai (China) on 03./04. November and Macau in November too.
