Rank five for Schnabl Engineering - LKM - Team Jebsen at Bud

The fifth round of the Porsche Supercup at Budapest was a brilliant highlight for Schnabl Engineering - LKM - Team Jebsen. In the framework of the GP of Hungary, Jiri Janak reached rank five.

As one assumed before, the team convinced on the 4,381 kilometre long track of Hungary. "We are quick on tracks, which we have been testing on", explained teamchef Sven Schnabl. "This applied to Magny Cours and today to Budapest too."

In qualifying Jiri Janak and Darryl O'Young proved their speed already. Janak drove a perfect turn and reached a time of 1:48.970 minutes, lacking less than a half second to pole setter Jeroen Bleekemolen. This meant second starting row and position four. "That's a result, we are happy with indeed", Janak said, being happy with his strong performance. Darryl O'Young faught hard too, but his engine did not work properly. Rank 16 with a time of 1:49.541 minutes was his result. Teamchef Sven Schnabl: "Analyzing the data logging, we realized that the engines' power was not good enough. We will check the engine on Porsche's testing bench after the race, in order to solve the problem."

Shortly before the F1 race the 28 pilots of the Porsche Supercup started for their 8th round of the season. Janak had a good start and was able to keep the pace of the top. The first three laps he faught bravely and kept in touch. Later the top headed away slightly but Janak drove a firm race and was rewarded with rank five in finish!

Darryl O'Young had problems with his gearbox in the race. Gears were difficult to shift and the aforesaid loss of engine power did not allow more than rank 15 in finish. In view of the problems this meant a good reult anyhow. "Alreday in formation lap I heard a strange sound and I could not shift", O'Young said after the race. "I was not really able to fight and could defend hardly. My start was not that good either. But I leave Budapest in a good mood since we made a step forward in setting up the car. Budapest showed - similar to Magny Cours - that theses tracks fit to us. I am looking forward for these races next year, hoping for better results then!"

Teamchef Sven Schnabl was in goog spirits at the end: "Rank five of Jiri Janak is a great result and Darryl O'Young showed a good performance. We reached our best season result and drove into point positions."
On tuesday, 7th August, the team is going to test in Belgium. At Spa-Francorchamps the final of the Porsche Supercup will be held in middle of September.
