9th round Porsche Carrera Cup – Hockenheim (GER) Conciliatory season final in Hockenheim

In front of 140.000 spectators at the last round of the Porsche Carrera Cup in Hockenheim the team Schnabl Engineering with a fifth rank of Martin Ragginger celebrated a conciliatory end of the season. Stefan Wendt and Hannes Plesse with the positions eleven and thirteen completed the good overall performance of the team. Fifth rank in the championship for Martin Ragginger and Schnabl Engineering.

Team Schnabl Engineering started with a bang into the last round of the Porsche Carrera Cup in Hockenheim. Already in both free practice sessions on Friday Martin Ragginger clinched best time. With a seventh rank in the rainy qualifying on Saturday it went not so good as a day before for the Austrian. In the 22 laps on Sunday he clinched a fourth rank and with that was one of the top-drivers again. “What a turbulent race. Since the track was still very damp off the line, especially in the first two laps a lot of action was going on”, so Martin Ragginger about the initial phase of the season closer in Hockenheim. “Fortunately I managed to stay away from all the trouble and so I finally ended up on fourth position”, the Austrian was pleased after he had crossed the finish line. The Schnabl-Engineering-Pilot was rewarded for his strong drive with points for a second rank, since Jeroen Bleekemolen and Jan Seyffarth in front of him were guest starters and didn’t receive championship points. “With that I still improved to fifth position in the final driver standings of the championship. My gratitude goes to the team. We had a lot of bad luck this season, but we have also often been able to prove that we belong to the top.”

“I had too much Wheelspin at the start and didn’t get away as I wanted. Furthermore, in the second corner I went over the wet curb and couldn’t avoid hitting Uwe Alzen. That incident let me drop back to the end of the field", Stefan Wendt describes his start into the final race of the season. Despite the bad beginning the German once again was able to prove his great talent in the further course of the race. He started a hunt through the field that finally ended on eleventh rank. “I could keep the losses low, but to be honest, a better result would have been possible today”, says Wendt, who finishes his first ever season in the Porsche Carrera Cup on rank eleven in the driver standings.

“This weekend is a reflection of the whole season”, unlucky fellow Hannes Plesse commented on the three days in Hockenheim, where he had to take a setback already in the qualifying. On the wet track Plesse lost his Porsche, crashed heavily into the barriers and had to settle with 21st position in the starting grid. “My start into the race was good, but already in the second corner someone turned me around and I was at the end of the field again. The Speed of my Porsche was quite good today, but I had expected more than a 13th rank at the season final.”
“All in all it was a conciliatory end of the season”, team manager Sven Schnabl draws a balance of the last race in Hockenheim. “With two best times of Martin Ragginger we caught a great start into the weekend. Today in the race, our setup was not the best; however, Martin made the best of the situation and finished fourth. Stefan Wendt after the incident with Alzen drove a strong race and made his way up again like Hannes Plesse, who after he spun still managed to finish thirteen’s”, say Sven Schnabl, who’s team despite the end of the Carrera Cup season doesn’t go into the deserved winter break. “The year is not over for us yet. We are still competing in four Asian races and we also want to be at the start in the final round of the German ‘Langstreckenmeisterschaft’ at the Nürburgring."
