8th round Porsche Carrera Cup - Oschersleben (GER) Unlucky Sunday in Oschersleben

Primarily the race Sunday at the eighth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup in Oschersleben took a disappointing course for the team Schnabl-Engineering. Martin Ragginger retired from the race with a cooler damage right after the start, a few laps later Stefan Wendt also had to stop his Porsche 911 GT3 with an electronic problem. In front of 62.000 spectators only Hannes Plese saw the chequered flag on seventeen’s rank despite a drive-through-penalty.

Especially for Martin Ragginger the weekend had started well. “That’s exactly the car I wished to have for the qualifying”, the Austrian shone on Saturday after claiming fifth position in the timed session on the 3.7 kilometres long circuit near Magdeburg. “The team has made an excellent job, because my car was good enough for the first row in the starting grid. That I ended up with fifth place was really my fault. Unfortunately I warmed up my tyres too cautiously and so I had not the full grip in the first corners of my flying lap. Nevertheless, I hope for more on Sunday.”

All hopes of the Austrian for a good result in the race had vanished one day later after only a few metres. "It was not only a short but also disappointing race for me and the complete team”, so Ragginger after his early retirement. “There was a jam in the first corner right after the start, I got a hit in the back of the car and felt that something was wrong with my rear wheel. However, the reason for my retirement was a cooler damage, which also happened in the incident. What a shame. It’s the second round in a row without any championship points.”
The Sunday took an even worse course for Stefan Wendt, who had qualified for the eleventh position in the starting grid of the race. Just before the start of the race the Porsche of the youngster suffered with an electronic problem on which the technicians worked until the last seconds. The team didn’t fully succeed with the repair, though. “Despite I could start into the race, the engine had misfire and I had to stop after a few laps”, Stefan Wendt was quite disappointed after his home race.

Also Hannes Plesse didn’t get along without problems on Sunday. At his way into the starting grid he left the pitlane one single second too late and was punished with a drive- through-penalty by the race control. “With that I had no chance in the race”, says Plesse, who dropped back to the end of the field, however, managed to fight his way up again to seventeen’s position until the end of the race. “My car was quite good. I was able to drive constant quick laps and without the penalty it certainly wood has sufficed for a good result today.”

"We had come to Oschersleben with great hopes for a good result, therefore the disappointment is of course particularly great after such a weekend”, team manager Sven Schnabl comments on the efforts on Sunday afternoon. “On Stefan’s (Wendt) car we had a problem with the wiring loom and the drive-trough-penalty of Hannes (Plesse) was caused by a team fault. We have ordered him to drive through the Pitlane for a second time, when the light at the exit switched to red. A cooler damage prevented Martin Ragginger from a top-result. Nevertheless, we will not give up, but we will do everything to have a conciliatory end of the season at the final round in Hockenheim.”

The season final of the Porsche Carrera Cup takes place in Hockenheim on October, 17th.
