5th Place: Successful Appearance for Falken Motorsports at Barbarossapreis VLN run

Once again demonstrating their class, the Falken Motorsports Team won a respectable fifth place overall on Saturday, 25 August 2012. Regular Falken starter and Porsche factory driver, Wolf Henzler, was supported by Italian racer Marco Mapelli.

Under a dramatic Eifel sky, whose clouds for once brought no rain save for a few drops here and there, the VLN fans who had made the pilgrimage to the Nürburgring circuit were treated to another top-notch endurance race. This was, however, only after the mood in the Falken paddock had suffered a blow following Friday’s free practice session from which the Falken Porsche had emerged with visible ‘battle scars’, notably clear signs of cold deformation directly in front of the rear axle on the vehicle’s right hand side. Team chief Sven Schnabel led his crew of mechanics in a repair effort which lasted well into the night and ultimately brought relief: The Falken Porsche 911 GT3-R received the all-clear for the race on the following day. And how she flew! Starting from fourth position after a strong qualifying, Wolf Henzler manoeuvred the car into the number three spot in the very first lap. Thrown back to seventh position by stop-and-go traffic in the pit lane during the first stop, the drivers were able to gradually recoup some lost time with competitively driven laps – even claiming fourth position temporarily. In the end, the team’s hard work was rewarded with a well-deserved fifth place, which is now the benchmark to surpass in the next race. “A podium spot to round out the season would be nice,” says Yukio Yoshida, Corporate Planning Director of Falken Tyre Europe GmbH. The battle for the winners’ rostrum will take place at the final VLN round, the 37th DMV Münsterlandpokal.
