08-06-2010

Martin Ragginger fetches third rank at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz for Schnabl Engineering. With his second podium finish in the third race, the Austrian takes over fourth rank in the driver standings of the Porsche Carrera Cup. Finishing seventh and eighth, Stefan Wendt and Hannes Plesse completed the terrific performance of the team Schnabl Engineering.

“It hardly could be done better like having all three cars within the TOP-8”, shines team manager Sven Schnabl after the race. “Praise to all three drivers and particularly to Martin Ragginger for his strong drive to third rank."

Already in the qualifying the pilots of the German team indicated that they would be really competitive on the 4.378 kilometres long racetrack near Berlin. "We were always strong in the races but, during the last days we also worked hard on a good qualifying performance which should pay off now”, Martin Ragginger threw down the gauntlet at his opponents already before the Qualifying was started. With fourth rank Ragginger proved that these were more than only words. With eighth rank of newbie Stefan Wendt and position fourteen for Hannes Plesse, also Ragginger’s team mates confirmed the good performance. “We have a tough competition in the Carrera Cup and with some small mistakes I unfortunately couldn’t bring it to the point”, Hannes Plesse explained the gap of about 8/10 of a second to Martin Ragginger.

In the 24 laps of the race all three pilots of the German team presented themselves in excellent form: “My start was perfect, but then I soon had to realize I could not keep pace with Nicolas Armindo and Nick Tandy”, Ragginger commented on the first laps in front of 79.000 spectators. Being stuck on fourth rank in a battlesome group, the former Porsche-Junior delivered remarkable fights and increased the pressure on his rivals steadily. “When Christian Engelhart made a mistake I just grasped the chance”, Ragginger grinned after the race. “I passed him and with that the podium finish was perfect.” Cool and easy he drove to the chequered flag, covered third rank and improved to fourth position in the driver standings.

"I am also very satisfied with my 24 laps", Rookie Stefan Wendt looked back on his third Carrera Cup race. "Although I had a couple of problems with the gearbox and the brake at the beginning of the race, the fights with three-fold Porsche brands cup champion Uwe Alzen and the other opponents were pure fun”, Wendt lets the turbulent initial phase pass revue again. With seventh rank he finally fetched his best ever Carrera Cup result. Right behind him Hannes Plesse crossed the finish line. “This time it was more than only cutting the losses”, says Plesse. “Especially in the final stage of the race my Schnabl-Porsche was very strong. So actually everything went fine for me, I only had some problems in the last curve of the circuit. Under these circumstances I am very satisfied with eighth rank.”

"The team’s performance as well as the performance of the drivers was really good", team manager Sven Schnabl draws a balance of the weekend at the EuroSpeedway. "We have been able to improve considerably in the qualifying. The race performance is already good, however, it should be improved as well so we can fight for victories soon."

The next round of the Porsche Carrera Cup takes place at the Norisring in Nürnberg from July 2nd to 4th.
