1st Round Porsche Carrera Cup - Hockenheim Strong start into the new season for Schnabl Engineering

The weekend of the season opener of the German Porsche Carrera Cup at Hockenheim ended with a podium finish for the team Schnabl-Engineering. At best weather conditions and in front of about 78.000 spectators Schnabl-Engineering new entry Martin Ragginger clinched a brilliant third rank. Stefan Wendt, finishing twelfth, just missed the TOP-10 positions, while Hannes Plesse after an incident through no fault of his own retired from the race. Rank three for Schnabl Engineering in the driver standing as well as the team standing.

„If someone told me about such an result on Wednesday, I would have never believed it. Especially due to the fact, that the obligation of Martin Ragginger wasn’t clear at this time”, team manager Sven Schnabl was enthused after the season opener of the Porsche Carrera Cup in Hockenheim. Not only from the driver’s point of view, but also from the battle spirit the new entry of the team Schnabl engineering was in top form. Started from ninth position the former Porsche-Junior with a flawless drive battled through the field, came in third and was acclaimed on the podium.

„I have really enjoyed the race, a great thank-you to my team for an almost perfect car", the 22-year-old shone after the chequered flag. “Too bad, that the qualifying turned out to be a bit difficult, because with our pace in the race I could have easily been better than third rank today. Nevertheless, it was an excellent start into the new season; I am really looking forward to the next race in Valencia.“

Like Ragginger, also the second Schnabl Engineering new entry delivered a convincing performance. After twelfth rank in the qualifying on Saturday, Stefan Wendt crossed the finish line in the race on Sunday on the same position. “My start was quite good, unfortunately I run into trouble with my brake later in the race. I slipped off the track once and than I decided to concentrate on finishing the race”, the 20-year-old described his solid drive, that finally saved him four points in the driver standing of the championship.

Hannes Plesse, driving the third Schnabl Engineering Porsche especially shone in the qualifying session on Saturday, where he claimed a good base for the race with seventh position in the starting grid. However, on Sunday the 26-year-old was hit by a competitor right in the initial phase of the race. “My start was brilliant, but a little later Robert Lukas missed the brake in the hairpin and crashed into my right front wheel. After the incident not only my setup was gone, but also my brake was damaged and so I ended up in the gravel later on”, Hannes Plesse explains.

“Beside Martin, who brought us a good step forward this weekend, Hannes Plesse and Stefan Wendt also handed in a good performance. Stefan steered our car into the points, Hannes was really quick all over the complete weekend, but unfortunately he had bad luck in the race. All in all I am really satisfied with the outcome of the season opener”, says Sven Schnabl. “We return home with third rank in the driver standing as well as in the team standing, what is really a top-result.“
